POLPRED

POLPRED is an offshore tide and current computation system for PCs. Making use of one or more of POL's hydrodynamic models, the software allows users to compute and visualise tidal levelsand currents in a variety of ways.

A new version is going to be available shortly and all the existing users will be able to upgrade free of charge.

POLPRED is a cost-effective way to anticipate problems arising from tidal movement and is now used by many offshore contractors for both planning and operational activities.

Features

Visualisations include:-

• Numerical listings of time series and statistics.
• Time series plots of elevations and currents.
• Maps showing elevations and currents (contours and vectors), statistics and user defined layers (e.g. oil and gas concession areas, locations of oil rigs etc).
• Proportional sized colour coded arrows allowing you to identify the current speed more easily.
• Current ellipses.
• Multiple particle tracking with diffusion.
• Tidal Diamond output for your offshore location (Tidal diamonds information pdf 72 KB).
• Comparison with observed data from the British Oceanographic Data Centre.
• The familiar Windows interface allows the user to select locations
• POLPRED allows the user to select their preferred units, number of decimal points and even the reference datum (MSL or LAT)
• More flexible user defined data allows you to mix different types of visual element as well as allowing up to 32 layers to be loaded into POLPRED at any one time. You can also save lists and define a default list.
• User defined data sets showing your offshore installation or area of survey and be overlaid onto the model grid
• Data files can be exported into other software packages such as spreadsheet packages
• Complete on-line PDF based help system and printed manual
• New "Set & Go" function whereby the software can be setup to carry out large numbers of calculations for different locations and time periods.

Validation

Prediction engine

The underlying prediction engine in POLPRED is also available as a Dynamic Link Library (DLL) for integration into your own Windows software. The improved flexibility that this gives has meant that the DLL and POL model data has been successfully incorporated into Search and Rescue packages, Oil Spill prediction software and both ECDIS and ARCs Navigation packages.
